Market Commentary – First Quarter 2014

After the impressive stock market returns of 2013, equities have remained essentially flat during the first quarter of 2014. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 0.7% and the S&P 500 Index is up only 1.3%. January saw the stocks fall approximately 6% only to recover this loss in February. March has seen up and down swings without moving the averages one way or another. Also, showing some volatility were longer term fixed-income issues, yet the final readings of the 10-year Treasury note was 2.73%, down only marginally for the quarter…
